Trenching FOCIC - runs of less than 1000 ft (304 m)
Cut and remove the conduit
If placing FOCIC, ring cut the conduit at the midpoint of the half loop. Mark the upstream/headend end of the con-
duit with several wraps of tape.
Back-pull at least 15 feet (4.6 m) of cable out of the conduit or the same amount of cable. Twist the cable loop so
that the cable crosses itself at ground level. NOTE: back-pulling the cable will create empty conduit at the far end of
the pull that will be cut off after installation. This conduit may be saved and used where the buried drop emerges at
the residence (see pages 9.5 and 9.6).
Push the conduit back into the trench leaving 6 in. (15 cm) of each end exposed above ground level. Fill the trench
and tamp down the dirt. Place the pedestal base over the conduit ends and bury it the recommended depth in the
dirt. Backfill the trench.
Loop the cable so that the pedestal cover will fit properly. Place the pedestal cap in position.
