drop cable may be installed by trenching or plowing. BrightPath drop cables should be buried to a

minimum depth of 12 in. (30 cm) or 18 in. (45 cm) in colder climates. START PLOWED INSTALLATIONS AT THE
PEDESTAL.

Use a plow chute with a radius equal to (and preferably larger) than the minimum bend radius of the drop cable.
The chute width should be at least 1/2 in. (13 mm) larger in diameter than the cable.

At the pedestal and residence, dig receiving pits between 12 and 18 in. (30 and 45 cm) in depth, 6 in. (15 cm) wide,
18 in. (45 cm) long and in the direction of planned line of the installation. The plow blade should be able to fit easily
in these pits. (The residence pit may need to be longer as the plow may not be able to get close to the NID).

Remove the pedestal cap and dig a hole to meet the receiving pit. Place the plow blade completely in the ground.
CAREFULLy feed the drop cable through the plow blade and run it to the bottom of the pit and up through the ped-
estal base. Store at least 7.5 feet (2.3 m) of cable in the pedestal.

The cable may pay-off from the front of the walk-behind plow or from a stationary reel along the route. In the walk-
behind plow method, pay the cable over the top of the reel. Do not use reel brakes. In the stationary reel method,
pull the cable end from the reel to the starting trench.

At the residence, CAREFULLy feed the drop cable through a piece of conduit 18 in. (45 cm) long. This will be used
to protect the cable when it is attached to the NID.

The drop cable can now be attached and spliced per

CommScope’s BrightPath tap and NIU installation documents.
