STR46SPVG — MAINTENANCE (ENGINE)

MAINTENANCE

When performing any maintenance on the trowel or engine,
follow all safety messages and rules for safe operation stated at
the beginning of this manual.

Maintenance Schedule

1.

Check and retighten all fasteners as necessary.

Daily (8-10 Hours)

1.

Check the fluid levels in the engine and gearboxes, fill
as necessary. Check air filter. See section on air filter
servicing.

Weekly (30-40 Hours)

1.

Relube arms, thrust collar and steering links.

2.

Replace blades if necessary.

3.

Check and clean or replace the engine air filter as
necessary. (See following section on air Filter
Maintenance.)

4.

Replace engine oil and filter as necessary. (See following
section on Oil and Filter.

)

Remove the air filter cartridge from the cover.

3.

Inspect the air filter element, replace if necessary.

4.

To clean the air filter element (cartridge), blow compressed
air (not to exceed 30 psi (207 kPa, 2.1 kgf/cm

2

) through the

filter element from the air cleaner case side.

5.

NEVER!

try to brush off dirt; brushing will force dirt into the

fibers. If the air filter element (cartridge) is excessively dirty,
replace element.

6.

Wipe dirt from the inside of the air cleaner body and cover,
using a moist cloth. Be careful not to let any dirt or debris to
enter the air chamber that leads to the carburetor.

7.

Reinstall the air filter element (cartridge) back into the air
cleaner cover. Securely latch the two locking clamps on
the air cleaner cover

Air Filter (As Required)

Thoroughly remove dirt and oil from the engine and control area.
Clean or replace the air cleaner elements as necessary. Check
and retighten all fasteners as necessary.

Release the two latch clamps (Figure 10) from the air
cleaner cover, and remove the cover.

At the front of the book there is a “Daily Pre-Operation Checklist”.
Make copies of this checklist and use it on a daily basis.

Daily Maintenance

Thoroughly remove dirt and oil from the engine and control area.
Clean or replace the air filter element as necessary. Check and
retighten all fasteners as necessary.

Perform the engine maintenance procedures as indicated on the
preceeding pages.

WARNING - Accidental Starting

Accidental starts can cause severe injury
or death.

ALWAYS place the ON/OFF
switch in the OFF position.

Disconnect and ground spark plug
leads and disconnect negative
battery cable from battery before
servicing.

NOTE

If trowel is used is in severe windy or
dusty areas, service air filter more
frequently to prevent damage to the
engine.
