Checking your networking software If you have the EtherT
alk and networking sof
tware already
installed on your P
owerBook Duo
, you can select a network
connection and begin using the network. If you don
’t have
EtherT
alk or networking sof
tware installed on your P
owerBook,
you can install it using the Installer program on the system sof
tware disks that came with your P
owerBook Duo (or with a
system sof
tware upgrade kit that you purchased).
To
check for networking sof
tware:
1.
Insert the P
owerBook Duo into the dock and tur
n on
the P
owerBook.
2.
Choose Control P
anels from the Apple (
K
) menu.
3.
Double-click the Network icon to open the Network control panel.
(Depending on your system version, your Network control panel may look slightly different from the one pictured here.)

If you can
’t find the Network control panel:
If no Network
control panel appears in the Control Panels folder
, go to
“Installing Networking System Sof
tware” in the next section
and install the networking sof
tware.

If the name “EtherT
alk” is displayed in the Network control
panel, then the Ether
net sof
tware is installed. F
ollow step 4
and then go to “Selecting a Network Connection” later in this guide. If “EtherT
alk” does not appear
, the EtherT
alk sof
tware is not
installed. F
ollow step 4 and then go to “Installing Networking
System Sof
tware” in the next section.

Click the close box to close the Network control panel.
