Important:
The built-in Ether
net capabilities of your
Duo Dock allow you to connect to any standard Ether
net
network. The built-in Ether
net supports EtherT
alk Phase 2
(Apple
Talk Phase 2 protocols for Ether
net networks). There
are also Apple and non-Apple products that you can use to
communicate over Ether
net using other protocols, such
as Mac
TCP
. The built-in Ether
net does not support EtherT
alk
Phase 1 (Apple
Talk Phase 1 protocols for Ether
net
networks).
S
There are two ways to connect the Duo Dock to an Ether
net
network:
m
connect the dock between other devices in a network
m
connect the dock to the end of an existing network
An EtherT
alk network consists of a group of devices, called nodes,
link
ed together by Ether
net cables. Individual nodes on a network
can include a variety of devices, such as computers, printers, or
other equipment.
Connecting the Duo Dock between two devices
on an Ethernet network
When you connect the Duo Dock between two devices on a
network, you’ll need to briefly inter
rupt communication between
network users on both sides of the connection, unless they are
link
ed through some other network route. Be sure to notif
y users
before adding the Duo Dock to the network.
1.
Plug the short cable extending from an Apple Ether
net
adapter into the Ether
net port on the dock.
The Ether
net port is at the center of the connector panel on
the back of the Duo Dock.
2.
Disconnect one Ether
net cable from the adapter of the
network device immediately to the lef
t or right side of
the dock.
3.
Plug one end of an Ether
net cable into the socket you
have just fr
eed and the other end into one of the
sockets of the dock’s Ether
net adapter
.
4.
Plug the Ether
net cable you disconnected in step 2 into
the r
emaining socket of the dock’s Ether
net connector
box.
