2.1.2 SNMP Settings
In order to transmit an SNMP trap from an Agent or to display an Agent's status on the
Management Console, it is necessary to configure the SNMP service on the Agent machine.
Moreover, in order to receive SNMP packets from an Agent, it is necessary to configure the
SNMP service on the Management Proxy.
Please perform the following settings, when installing an HEW Agent or a Management
Proxy.
- In the case of WindowsNT, start [Control Panel] - [Network] and then activate the [Services]
tab. Select [SNMP Services] and click the button [Properties]. The screen [Microsoft SNMP
Properties] is displayed.
- In the case of Windows2000 or Windows Server 2003, start [Control Panel] –
[Administrative Tools] and double-click [Services]. Right-click [SNMP Service] and select
[Properties]. The screen [SNMP Service Properties] is displayed.
After selecting the tab [Security], the following screens are displayed.
Select the check box [Send authentication trap].
In the section [Accepted community names] select [public] and change the values for
Authority to [READ CREATE], [READ WRITE].. Finally, select the option button for [Accept
SNMP packets from any host].
If you want to select [Accept SNMP packets from these hosts], enter the IP address of the
PC where the Management Proxy function is installed.
On the Agent machine, please enter the IP address of the machine where the Management
Proxy is installed. On the Management Proxy, please enter the IP addresses of all the Agent
machines that the Management Proxy manages.
