To connect the power cables, do the following:
• For server models with up to four 3.5-inch hot-swap hard disk drives, connect the 4-pin power connector
on one end of the power cable to the 4-pin power connector on the system board. Then, connect the
other power connector on the other end of the power cable to the power connector on the backplane.
• For server models with more than four 3.5-inch hot-swap hard disk drives, use two power cables.
Connect the 4-pin power connector on one end of one power cable to the 4-pin power connector on
the system board. Then, connect the other power connector on the other end of the power cable to the
power connector on the backplane installed on the upper hard-disk-drive cage. Connect the 8-pin power
connector on one end of the other power cable to the 8-pin power connector on the power conversion
board. Then, connect the other power connector on the other end of the power cable to the power
connector on the backplane installed on the lower hard-disk-drive cage.
• For server models with up to eight 2.5-inch hot-swap hard disk drives, connect the 8-pin power connector
on one end of the power cable to the 8-pin power connector on the power conversion board. Then,
connect the other power connector on the other end of the power cable to the power connector on the
backplane.
Refer to the following topics for information about the connector locations:

Connecting the SATA signal cables from the system board to the non-hot-swap
hard disk drives
For server models with up to four 3.5-inch non-hot-swap hard disk drives, connect one end of a SATA signal
cable to the rear of a non-hot-swap hard disk drive. Then, connect the other end of the SATA signal cable to
the appropriate SATA connector on the system board. You also need to connect the appropriate power
connector to the rear of the non-hot-swap hard disk drive.
The following table provides information about the recommended SATA connector on the system board for
the non-hot-swap hard disk drive installed in each drive bay.

To connect the power cable from the system board to the non-hot-swap hard disk drives, connect the 4-pin
power connector on one end of the power cable to the 4-pin power connector on the system board. Then,
connect the power connectors on the other end of the power cable to the corresponding power connectors
on the hard disk drives.
For more information about the location of the hard-disk-drive bays, power connectors, and SATA connectors
on the system board, see “Server components” on page 23 and “System board components” on page 38
