DESCRIPTION / INTENDED USE:
The Merit Majestik Shielded Angiography Needle is used for
providing a puncture site in blood vessels for the introduction
of vascular access devices. The needle incorporates a safety
mechanism to help minimize needlestick injuries after use.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE:
After following standard protocol for angiographic needle use,
immediately activate the safety mechanism as directed.
Majestik Shielded Angiography Needles are offered with the
shield oriented either on the side or on the top of the needle, as
the needle bevel is facing up. Activate the safety mechanism in
the same manner for both orientations.
1. Apply a single-finger stroke to the hinged arm to activate the
safety mechanism immediately after use.
2. Push the hinged arm a short distance along the length of the
needle until the shield unfolds and snaps into place, covering
the needle tip.
3. Discard the Majestik Shielded Angiography Needle in the
nearest sharps container. Follow your institution's policy for
safe disposal of all medical waste.

TO USE:
1. Depress top button on protective shield.
2. Retract shield to rear locking position to fully uncover blade.
TO COVER:
1. Depress top button on protective shield.
2. Advance shield to forward locked position at lock indicator line.
DISPOSAL:
Dispose protected scalpel in an approved sharps container.

INTENDED USE:
The primary function of the device is to inject fluids into, or with-
draw fluids from, parts of the body below the surface of the skin.
The needle stick prevention feature of the device helps prevent acci-
dental needle sticks by shielding the needle after use.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE:
1. To open package, peel back paper tabs exposing the MONOJECT
MAGELLAN Safety Needle hub. Use aseptic technique.
2. Attach MONOJECT MAGELLAN Safety Needle to any luer lock or
regular luer syringe.
3. Remove the MONOJECT MAGELLAN Safety Needle sheath. Be
certain not to touch the needle.
4. If performing injection, draw medication into syringe and use
aseptic technique.
5. If necessary to transport filled syringe to point of administration,
use a safe, passive recapping technique to cover the needle
before transport. In accordance with OSHA standards, such
recapping must be accomplished by a one-handed technique,
ie., do not hold the needle shield during the recapping process.
6. Perform injection (or aspiration of body fluid) according to local
standard procedure and aseptic technique.
7. Immediately following the injection or aspiration procedure, lock
the safety needle shield using any of the following methods:
• Push the safety shield forward in a single-handed manner to
cover the needle and lock the shield. Keep your finger (fig. 1A
FINGER ACTIVATION) or thumb (fig. 1B THUMB ACTIVATION)
behind the needle tip at all times.
OR
• Press the safety shield, lever side down, onto a flat surface
to cover the needle and lock the shield, ie., bedside table
(fig. 2 SURFACE ACTIVATION).
8. The MONOJECT MAGELLAN Safety Needle is locked once the
needle tip is completely covered. Verify locked position through
audible, tactile, and/or visual feedback (see Fig. 3 LOCKED).

9. Only grasp the colored hub to connect/disconnect needle and
syringe.
10. Once safety shield is locked, immediately discard the MONOJECT
MAGELLAN Safety Needle and syringe into the nearest sharps
container following applicable regulations.
PRECAUTIONS/CAUTIONS:
All needles, shielded or unshielded, should be handled with
care. Activate the safety mechanism away from self or others.
DO NOT AUTOCLAVE BEFORE USE.
To help avoid infectious disease due to accidental needlesticks,
contaminated needles should not be recapped or removed, unless
there is no alternative or such action is required by a medical procedure.

After deployment do not attempt
to override or defeat the safety
mechanism.
