Performance LCD Format
Upon receiving a
TEST UNIT READY
or
INQUIRY SCSI
command from the host, the LCD
switches to the Performance Format. This is the main operational format of the LCD. The top two lines
of the LCD always display the current SCSI command and the tape-capacity bar graph. The bottom two
lines of the display alternate between five performance/status items.

Current Tape Operation
The current SCSI command being executed displays on the top line of the LCD. Typical
commands shown are
Read, Write, WrtFMK, Rewind, Space,
etc…. (See
Appendix for a complete list of SCSI commands.)

Additionally, off-line utilities use this area to display tape-drive errors. The SCSI
Request
Sense
command provides information about an error. Interpretation for bytes 2, 12 and 13 of
Request Sense data may be found in your tape drive manual. For example, the following cyclic
display indicates that an attempted write to a write-protected tape caused the failure.
