8. Troubleshooting

Most problems can be narrowed down to two areas: (1) Improper wiring or, (2) Loss of signal due to mounting
location. In most cases the LED inside the 900SS module can help identify the problem area. Also, ensure that
all of the network numbers are set the same. See Section 7.1. With tuning issues or radio settings, the HHI
Wireless Installation kit may be required, Part Number 6626-3500.

8.1 Checking 900SS Wireless Radio Settings

The HH.Net Wireless Software has built-in self diagnostics that can reset the settings. All settings will be set to
appropriate values except Network Number. This can be done using the PDA or the Computer based software.
To check the wireless radio settings:

Step 1. Connect 900SS Radio to device as previously shown.
Step 2. Click on the Read Button.

8.2 LED

Indicator

The LED inside the 900SS Wireless module can be used to troubleshoot a variety of problems. The LED
indicates the following:

• Green LED: Power is applied to 900SS Radio.
• Green Flashing: Radio is transmitting data.
• Green LED Flashing Orange: Radio is receiving data.

¾

LED is OFF: Check across +12 and GND with a volt meter to ensure that 9-16VDC is present. If voltage

is correct, replace PCB176 (HHI Part Number 6407-1546). If no voltage, check wiring on power supply
connection. For wall-mount transformers, ensure that the AC plug has power then replace transformer if
needed (HHI Part Number 1902-2993). For 900SS modules with the power supply connected to a control,
check voltage at control and ensure that the connector is connected properly. Next ensure that control has
power and trouble shoot the control.

¾

Green LED No Flashing: This Indicates the radio has power but isn’t receiving or transmitting data.

First, check the wiring for damage or proper connection. Ensure that the antenna is plugged in correctly
and that the top circuit board is seated properly.

On PC side ensure that Farm Manager is running and the proper Com port is set. Next check the Com
port for proper operation. This can be done using HHI serial port tester or take your computer to a
Computer Repair Technician.
On Control side ensure that Farm Manager is running on PC side. Check radio for proper settings
using the PDA. See Section 8.1. Check mounting location for obstruction. Use tuning software if
needed.

¾

Green LED Flashing, No Orange: This would normally be on the computer side only. The computer is

transmitting but not getting a response from controller side. Start by checking controller side of network.
