12. Troubleshooting

Symptom
Possible Cause
Solution
Main burner will not
ignite.
Thermostat may not be set
properly.
Set thermostat to desired house
temperature.
The burner venturi may be
restricted.
Clean burner venturi to remove
obstruction.
Igniter may not reach into
the path from the burner.
Make sure the manifold gas pressure is set
to manufacturer’s recommended pressure.
If not, adjust to recommended pressure.
Faulty gas valve.
Replace gas valve.
Main burner will
flashback.
Gas pressure is set
incorrectly.
Adjust manifold gas pressure to
manufacturer’s recommended pressure.
The orifice may be
misaligned.
Adjust orifice so that it is positioned
perfectly vertical.
Igniter does not glow.
Igniter may be
disconnected.
Check that wires are connected both at the
ends of the white wires, and at the control
enclosure terminal block
Thermostat preventing
operation.
Make sure that your thermostat is set to
allow the brooder to operate at the present
temperature.
Igniter will glow, but
gas valve will not
engage.
Low gas pressure at gas
valve.
Check gas supply from line to gas valve to
be sure that all valves are open, and that
the regulator is functioning properly.
Clogged gas orifice.
Check that nothing obstructs the flow of
gas from the orifice.

Check that the burner is clear and free
from obstructions.
