You may verify performance by using the method described below (refer to Section 6.7.3).

6.7.3 Measuring the Total Xsan Volume Bandwidth

The total “Xsan volume bandwidth” is the combined achievable performance of Xsan volumes for connected
workstations. In an Xsan environment, since multiple users share the same storage pool, the access pattern is
typically in multi-thread sequential form. There are many factors which may affect the aggregated throughput of the
Xsan volumes. We recommend that you use Apple’s “Xsan Tuner” utility to see if your Xsan volume can handle
planned workloads before you put it into production use.

The Xsan Tuner is designed to test the video transfer capabilities of your Xsan volumes. It can simulate standard
UNIX reads and writes, as well as Final Cut Pro video reads and writes, for a variety of common video formats.
However, the Final Cut Pro simulation has not been properly updated since Mac OS X 10.5. Until further notice,
you should only consider the Unix simulation to be reliable.

You may run the Xsan Tuner UNIX reads and writes simultaneously on all the workstations to simulate the real-case
operation, and add all measured throughput of attached workstations to calculate the total Xsan volume bandwidth.

6.8 Managing Xsan Clients

This section shows you how to add client computers using Xsan Admin and mount an Xsan volume on a
client.

6.8.1 Adding an Xsan Client

Before a computer can use an Xsan volume, you must add the computer to the SAN as an Xsan client.
These instructions show you how to add a client computer to an Xsan.
