2-2 Processor and Heatsink Installation
Exercise extreme caution when handling and installing the processor.
Always connect the power cord last and always remove it before adding,
removing or changing any hardware components.
Installation Procedure
Follow the procedures as listed below to install the motherboard into a chassis.
Install the processor(s) and the heatsink(s). 1.
Install the motherboard in the chassis. 2.
Install the memory and add-on cards. 3.
Finally, connect the cables and install the drivers. 4.
Installing the Processors
Begin by removing the cover plate that 1.
protects the CPU. Lift the lever on the
CPU socket until it points straight up.
With the lever raised, lift open the silver
CPU retention plate.
Triangles
Use your thumb and your index fi nger 2.
to hold the CPU. Locate and align pin
1 of the CPU socket with pin 1 of the
CPU. Both are marked with a triangle.
