Adding to an Existing Sonos System
When and why should I use a wireless connection?
The Sonos Multi-Room Music System uses a built-in wireless connection to
communicate between Sonos components. This means ZonePlayers can be placed
anywhere in and around your home and connect wirelessly when a wired Ethernet
connection is not available.
Use wireless connections when:
• You don’t want to install network cables
• You may want to move the ZonePlayer
• There is enough wireless signal strength for the ZonePlayer to function reliably
Add a ZoneBridge
If you are adding a ZoneBridge to an EXISTING Sonos system, please follow the steps
below. If you are setting up a NEW Sonos Multi-Room Music System, please see
"Setting Up a New Sonos System" on page 2-2 instead.
Note: Thick walls, 2.4 GHz cordless telephones, or the presence of other wireless
devices can interfere with or block the wireless network signals from your Sonos
Multi-Room Music System. Once you locate your ZonePlayer, if you are experiencing
difficulty, you can try — relocating the ZonePlayer, changing the wireless channel
your music system is operating on (see "Selecting a different wireless channel" on
page 5-8), or making a wired connection by connecting an Ethernet cable from your
router to the ZonePlayer, or from one ZonePlayer to another.
If you are having trouble placing your units within wireless range of each other, you
can go to our Web site at
