d. Recommended Additional settings:
i. Echo Typed Character Locally
ii. Send line Ends with Line Feeds

g. Example: Checking optical input power level via serial terminal software:
i. Enter the text:

ii. The unit will respond with text similar to:

Which in this case reports that the input power is 6.2 dBm (4.2 mW).
h. It is important to correctly configure the TCP/IP settings of the unit, via the se-
rial interface, for correct operation on the installation site LAN for SNMP com-
munication.
i. Login to gain access to provisioning commands:
LOGIN 999999
where 999999 is the default login password, actual password may have
been changed by operators. Note: if you do not login then you can still
read settings but will not be able to change/write provisioning settings.
ii. Set fixed TCP/IP address of unit
SIP xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the fixed TCP/IP address that has been desig-
nated for this unit at this installation site.
iii. Set the TCP/IP Gateway address that the unit may use
SGATE yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy
where yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy is the fixed TCP/IP address that has been
designated as the gateway for the unit at this installation site.
iv. Set the TCP/IP subnet mask the unit
SNET zzz.zzz.zzz.zzz
where zzz.zzz.zzz.zzz is the TCP/IP sub-net mask that has been desig-
nated for the unit at this installation site.
