Symbols
∆ Delta, meaning change. For example, in the Capture Overview Window the
∆ field shows the change in time between the loop start and end points.

Boost To increase gain.

Cut To decrease gain.

dB Decibel; a logarithmic unit of measurement used to describe sound levels
relative to a reference level, both acoustically and electrically. There are
several suffixes added to dB to indicate the reference quantity or weighting
function used:
• dBFS: Decibels relative to full scale; 0 dBFS is the maximum level in
a digital audio system, since the level cannot go over 0.
• dBu: Decibels relative to 0.775 volts, across a 600 Ω load.
• dBV: Decibels relative to 1 volt, with no impedance specification.
DUT Device Under Test
Term referring to an audio device to be tested, for example an EQ.

FFT Fast Fourier Transform
The mathematical algorithm SpectraFoo uses to analyze audio.

Gain The measure of a device’s ability to increase the level of an audio signal.
H
Hertz Unit of frequency, defined as the number of times per second the amplitude
of an audio signal cycles from 0 to full positive to full negative back to 0.
