D-Link Product Guide 2008
Power Over Ethernet (PoE) adapters and midspans are designed to help simplify
network maintenance and deployments at offices, factories and Wi-Fi hot spots. They
allow surveillance cameras and wireless access points to be installed on building
rooftops, ceilings or high walls for maximum coverage. Cameras and wireless access
points can be placed up to 100 meters away from the power sources. It is at these
places that wall AC outlets are inaccessible and providing power to these locations is
difficult and expensive.
PoE adapters and midspans are also handy for Internet telephone installation at
offices, eliminating the need to individually power each IP phone. By transmitting
remote power through the standard network cabling, these adapters do away with the
need for an AC outlet at each device location. Only a single Ethernet cable is run to
each IP phone, camera or wireless AP, instead of separate power and data cables.
PoE AdAPtErs & MidsPAns
● Standard 110-240VAC
Conversion to Low-Voltage DC
Power
» Use existing LAN cables to power
network devices.
» A single Cat. 5 or better cable can carry
both Ethernet data and DC power.
» Simplify network hardware integration
and power management.
» Network devices do not need to confine
to locations near power outlets.
● Central Power Source
Provision to Entire LAN
Infrastructure
» Network accessories can be scattered
around and connected to single PoE
midspan or PoE switch.
» Network devices do not need to confine
to locations near power outlets.
» Eliminate time and cost of installing
separate power cabling and providing
dedicated, uninterrupted power supply
for each individual network device.
● Guaranteed Power Protection
Against Unforeseen
Emergencies
» PoE midspans and PoE switches can
be connected to Uninterruptible Power
Supply (UPS).
» Continuous operation for all connected
network devices during power failures.

POWERLINE
● high transmission rate
» The latest generation of D-Link
Powerline adapters (DHP-300) can
deliver data transfer rates of up to
200Mbps.
» Ideal for streaming video and music
from PC or storage servers in other
rooms to High-Definition TV and Media
Players in living room.
● Quality of Service Support
» Video, Internet phone and on-line
games won’t experience glitches while
file downloads or web surfing are taking
place.
● Uses Different AC Frequencies
» Household appliances’ electrical current
doesn’t interfere with the data network.
● Data Encryption/Net ID
Security
» Keep out intruders in the same building.
» Isolate home or office network from
users in other apartments on the same
floor that share the building electrical
wiring.
● 802.1Q VLAN tag
» Network isolation to prevent Internet
phone from being tapped.
Powerline transmits data on the electrical wiring and does not require any new network
cables. Because power outlets are located on nearly every wall of a house, users can
easily connect the network and share Internet access. It is ideal for connecting home
network entertainment components normally located near a power outlet. Any Ethernet-
ready devices, such as broadband routers, computers, High Definition TV, digital video
recorders, game consoles, Internet cameras, print servers and D-Link Media Players can
be added to a home network.
Powerline can be used to extend a Wi-Fi network in the home or small office building.
A pair of Powerline adapters can link two wireless locations without the need to run
Ethernet cables. Combined with a broadband cable/DSL connection, every room with
electrical outlets will have easy access to high-speed Internet connection.
