Features & Benefits
D-Link Product Guide 2008
WEB-SMART SWITCHES
● SmartConsole Utility
» Easy access to the switch from a local
PC.
» No need to type in any IP address or
subnet, all switches connected on the
network are displayed on the screen for
instant access.
● Web-Based Users’ Interface
» Allows switch access from any location
on the network or from a remote site,
using a web-browser.
» Allows extensive switch configuration
setting, which can be backed up for
duplication in other switches
● Built-in MIB
» Switches can be polled for information
about their status. Traps of abnormal
events can be sent out.
» Switches can be integrated with other
third-party devices for management in
an SNMP environment.
● Complete Layer 2 Managed
Switch Functions
» Include IGMP snooping, port
mirroring, Spanning Tree and port
trunks, important functions enhance
performance and network resiliency.
● VLAN Support
» 802.1Q VLAN Tagging enhances
network security and performance.
● Quality of Service Support
» 802.1p Priority Queues enables users
to run streaming multimedia and VoIP
applications.
● Network Access Security
» MAC address filters to screen access to
network.
» 802.1x port-based authentication allows
the network to be configured with
external RADIUS servers.
● Safeguard Engine
» Prevents ARP broadcast storm and
protocol-based attacks.
» ASIC is used to execute this prevention
task to offload switch’s CPU workload.
The Web-Smart Switches are cost-effective LAN switches designed mainly to
enhance the performance and security of small business networks. They provide
many advanced features while maintaining the ease-of-use and basic cost
characteristics of the unmanaged switches. Businesses with limited IT resources
can deploy these switches to set up a manageable network without having to go
through complex SNMP management.
The Web Smart Switches can be configured from any network computer through
an Internet browser, dispensing users of the need to set up consoles and connect
console cables. All switches are automatically discovered and displayed on a
network topology. From a network station, network administrators can monitor
network status and statistics and receive traps of system events or port errors.
Web Smart switches with 802.3af Power over Ethernet (PoE) carry electric power
over the Ethernet cables. These switches are useful for surveillance and wireless
networks, where cameras and access points typically need to be located at out-
of-the-way locations, such as on the ceilings or rooftops, for maximum coverage.
By transmitting remote power through the standard network cabling, these PoE
switches provide a centralized power source for IP phones, cameras and wireless
AP, eliminating the need for individual power cabling to these devices.
