This Shredder Flail Kit is a replacement kit to replace existing
cracked or damaged flails on SC2170 model chipper/shred-
ders. The shredder flails are designed to offer long life and
can be reversed if they become worn. To remove a flail or to
install a complete new flail kit, proceed as follows.
InstallatIon steps:
1. Remove the six 5/16" nuts holding the front cover to the
main housing (Figure 1).
2. Remove front cover.
3. Working one shaft at a time, remove the 10-24 x 1-1/8"
screw and 10-24 nylock nut from the shredder flail located
on the shaft (Figure 2).
4. Push the flail shaft out of the flail and remove the flail from
the rotor.
5. Place new flail into rotor and insert new flail shaft through
it. Secure the shaft with a new 10-24 x 1-1/8" screw and
10-24 nylock nut. Torque to 36 in-lb.
6. Repeat for the remaining flail.
7. Replace front cover and secure with the hardware re-
moved in step 1.
This shredder kit uses an improved knife pattern to
provide more complete shredding, durability and
easier feeding.
note
Never reuse the #10-24 bolts, nuts or shafts. Always
install new parts when replacing flails or blades.

shut off engine, disconnect the spark plug and make
sure all moving parts have come to a complete stop.
