WARnInG
These instructions will describe how to install a tow
hitch on a 3" chipper/shredder. Note that this tow hitch
is designed to tow your chipper/shredder behind a riding
lawn mower or garden tractor ONLY. do not use the
hitch for road towing. Remove the hitch from the chipper/
shredder before operation.
InSTALLATIOn
before you attach the tow hitch, make sure the leg strap
is properly positioned on the hitch pole. Chose one of the
positions shown below based on your engine type (see
figure below):
• Position A: For use with 190cc (5 HP) models
• Position B: For use with 342cc, 305cc, 270cc, or
240cc (8 HP) models.
The holes in the leg strap are slotted to provide additional
adjustment.
1. Lay the tow hitch on a flat, level surface with the
handle facing up. Remove the two snap pins from the
hitch and set aside.
2. Roll the chipper/shredder over the hitch, catching the
stand in the leg strap as shown below.
3. From the rear of the machine, lift up on the hitch
handle, and position the hitch channel over the chipper/
shredder axle. (As an alternative, the front of the
chipper/shredder can be lifted and if needed placed on
a block so that the hitch can be lifted and placed under
the machine, hooking over the rear axle.)
4. Check the leg strap to insure the front stand is
properly positioned under the strap, which prevents
the machine from tipping backwards. If needed,
loosen the bolts holding the leg strap and slide the
strap toward the leg to obtain a tight fit. Tighten the
strap bolts to 20 ft. lbs torque before using.
5. Lift the front of the hitch and place it onto the tow
tractor, with the tractor tongue centered between the
plates on the chipper/shredder hitch.
6. Install one snap pin through the holes in the chipper/
shredder hitch and the tractor tongue. Install the
second snap pin through the holes provided on the
hitch channel under the axle.
The machine can now be towed.
Before operating the chipper/shredder, disconnect
the hitch from the tractor and the chipper/shredder.
