EtherCAT statuses
The various statuses in which an EtherCAT module may be found are described in the Ba
sic System Documentation for EtherCAT, which is available for download from our website
(www.beckhoff.com) under Downloads.

EtherCAT cable
For connecting EtherCAT devices only shielded Ethernet cables that meet the requirements of at least
category 5 (CAt5) according to EN 50173 or ISO/IEC 11801 should be used.

You may get detailed recommendations about cabling EtherCAT from the documentation
"Recommendations for the design of the infrastructure for EtherCAT/Ethernet", that is avail
able for download at www.Beckhoff.com.
EtherCAT uses 4 wires for signal transfer.
Due to automatic cable detection (autocrossing) symmetric (1:1) or crossover cables can be used between
EtherCAT devices from Beckhoff.
