This stitch is extremely versatile for swim
suits, seams, attaching stretchy lace, and
lingerie and girdle seams.
FAGOTING
An open work effect can be attained with
fagoting. Slit the fabric where fagoting is
desired. Overcast the edges of the fabric and
turn back about 1/4 inch. Press. Sew so
that the stitches to the far left and the far
right catch into the folded edges alternately
and the stitches in the center catch into the
space between the two folded edges. (Fig.
123)
BASEBALL
1 Decide on the radius of the baseball to
determine the placement of the cello
phane tape and thumbtack.
2. Pierce a piece of tape with a thumbtack
so the sticky side of tape, and flat side
of tack will be against the bed of the
machine.
3. Place tape with tack the desired dis
tance from the needle as determined in
step 1. (Fig. 124)
4. On fabric, mark two perpendicular lines
to mark the center of the baseball. (Fig.
125)
5. Pierce center of baseball with tack.
6
. Begin sewing and complete perfect circle
creating the outline of baseball.
7. To make the internal stitching lines,
measure two points equidistant from the
edge of circle, and on the same plane as
the center of the circle. (Fig. 126)
8
. Place thumbtack on one point and lower
the presser foot on the edge of the circle.
Sew until last stitch reaches the other
side of the circle.
