About the bird:
Imitating other
birds and animals, an individual
mocker can incorporate more than
200 different sounds into its songs.
Range:
Resident in most of U.S.
Southern two-thirds only in winter.
About the photo:
Because their
diet consists mostly of insects and
fruit, these birds are not regular
visitors to traditional feeders. They
can be attracted with water.

This is the largest
woodpecker in North America. Listen
for its loud, haunting call in mature
forests and wooded suburbs.
Range:
Resident across the eastern
U.S., most of Canada, and the north-
western states south to Calif.
