About the bird:
This bird is the
only quail species inhabiting the East.
Although more common in grass-
lands and farm fields, bobwhites will
sometimes venture into backyards for
scattered seed and cracked corn.
Range:
Resident in much of the
eastern and south-central U.S.
About the photo:
Here, a pair of
bobwhites (male and female) visits a
Florida backyard feeding station.

About the bird:
The cardinal is a
favorite species of many bird watchers
and non-bird watchers alike. These birds
can easily be attracted to the backyard
year-round by offering sunflower seed.
Range:
Resident of eastern two-
thirds of North America to parts of
N.M. and Ariz.
About the photo:
Keith’s Bird-
Cam captured this brilliant male
cardinal on a hanging platform feeder.
Photographed by:
Keith Riston
with an Audubon BirdCam.
About the bird:
This jay-sized
woodpecker is often seen on the
ground eating ants, a major part of
the bird’s diet. Flickers will also visit
backyard feeders for suet.
Range:
All parts of North America
throughout most of the year.
About the photo:
We know this
bird is a female because she lacks the
black or red moustache mark present
in male flickers.
