This large, white-
headed gull of the northern Pacific
Coast frequently hybridizes with its
close relative the Western Gull.
Range:
Resident along Pacific Coast
from Alaska to Wash.; winters south
to Mexico.

About the bird:
This overall gray
bird with a black cap and rusty undertail
patch is named for its cat-like mewing
call. Catbirds are related to mocking-
birds and mimic other bird sounds.
Range:
Breeds across most of the
U.S. and southern Canada; moves
south in winter.
