The additional options may be set to the default values shown. Otherwise, you can change the
additional options by moving to the desired entry field and pressing F4, or press F1 for additional
information.

Soft Partitions: A soft partition is a meta-device that sits on a single disk slice or other meta-device.
The difference between the soft partition and other devices is that a soft partition has a fixed size, and
multiple soft partitions can share the same underlying device. Therefore, if you have a disk slice or a
RAID 0 device that is 6 GB in size, you can create 6 soft partitions, each 1 GB in size, using the same
device.

After selecting this option, you are given a list of existing soft partitions and an option to add a new
device:

Select Add New to create a new soft partition, or use the arrow keys to select a line containing an
existing soft partition and press Enter. A screen similar to the following will be displayed:

Hot Spare Pools: This type of meta-device contains one or more disk slices which are used as spare
parts for other RAID 0 or RAID 5 meta-devices. If a disk fails which contains redundant (mirrored or
parity) data, the hot spare will automatically take over for the failed disk, and will be automatically
resyncd with the missing data.

Note that only RAID 0 devices which are part of a RAID 1 (mirrored) meta-device will benefit from
having a hot spare assigned, since only then is there redundant data.

When selecting this option, you are given a list of existing hot spares and an option to add a new one:
