A RAID 1 meta-device can only be built using other (typically RAID 0) meta-devices. Therefore, if you
have not already done so, you must create at least one RAID 0 device first. To select the RAID 1
device on which to create this mirror, press F4 in the Device List field. Only RAID 1 meta-devices
which already exist will be provided in the selection list.

The additional options may be set to the default values shown. Otherwise, you can change the
additional options by moving to the desired entry field and pressing F4, or press F1 for additional
information.

When all entries are complete, press ESC or F3 to return to the

SVM Settings Menu

.

RAID 5 (parity) :

When changing the RAID Type to RAID 5, or when selecting an existing RAID 5 device, a screen
similar to the following will appear:

Raid 5 meta-devices are configured using disk slices or soft partitions. You will need a minimum of 3
underlying devices to make a RAID 5 meta-device. To select the devices to include, move to the
Device List field and press F4 to select. Only defined disk slices and soft partitions will appear. You
must select at least 3 devices. If you do not have enough devices, press ESC to return the settings
screen above, then type “D” in the Create option field to delete this meta-device.

Hot Spare Pool: You can press F4 in this field to list and select an available hot spare pool. This pool
is a separate SVM device which must already exist, and may be created using the

Hot Spare Pools

option described below.
