Focusing
Two focusing systems are available to suit your needs: autofocus and manual
focus. The camera usually operates in autofocus, but you may want to use
manual focus for certain conditions.
Autofocus
The camera enters autofocus mode as soon as you turn the camera on. Focus
adjusts automatically to suit the subject located in the centre of the viewfinder.
• When shooting bright subjects outdoors during daytime, the lens aperture is
small, so accurate focus is easily achieved. However, if conditions are cloudy
or if you are shooting dark subjects (night scenes, etc.), use manual
focusing.
• If the camera is near other products that use infrared beams (e.g. wireless
controller for the VTR), autofocus may malfunction.
• Manual focus clears when the camera is turned off.
• Be sure not to obscure autofocus window with your hand, fingers, etc. during
recording.
• Do not touch focusing ring during autofocus.
• Aim camera so that the subject is centred in viewfinder during autofocus
use.
• The autofocus mechanism focuses subjects at a distance of up to approxi*
mately nine metres. For more distant subjects, focus locks at infinity.
To keep your subject in focus regardless of its position In the viewfinder:
First frame subject in centre of viewfinder and let autofocus determine proper
focusing. Press AF/MANUAL button to lock focusing. Then frame subject in
viewfinder as desired, maintaining the same distance from the subject.
