Gain-up/Backlight Compensation
The GAIN UP/BLC button is used for the
following two functions. The camera will
automatically select the appropriate function
based on the lighting conditions.
Gain-up Function 5

The gan-up function lets you record more brightly
than usual, especially for when you are recording
in dimly lit places. Since gain-up relies on
electronic image processing, the image quality
will suffer somewhat.
Notes:
* With gain-up, picture quality will suffer somewhat.
Cancel gain-up when recording in a brightly lit area.
* It may be impossible to record in extremely dark
places, even when using the gain-up feature. When
recording from only a short distance, use the VL-7
Battery Video Light (see p. 47).
Backlight Compensation Function
Backlighting, caused for example by the sun or
an open window behind the subject, will make the
subject appear underexposed and lacking in
detail. When the subject appears underexposed
in the viewfinder use the tocklight compensation
(BLC) function.
Notes:
• If the picture angle is altered during backlight
compensation, the exposure may become
unsuitable. The image in the viewfinder should
always be checked and compensation used only
when the subject appears underexposed.
• If the subject still appears underexposed, use the
VL-7 Battery Video Light (see p. 47).
