Low Voltage (Generator)
ThisfaultisindicatedbyfaultcodeFC_3andthreeblinkson
theLEDindicator.Thisconditioniscausedbyarestrictionin
thefuelflow,abrokenordisconnectedsignallead,afailed
alternatorwinding,thecontrolpanelcircuitbreakerisopen,
orthegeneratorisoverloaded.
Toremedytheproblem,contactyourinstalleroraBriggs&
StrattonAuthorizedDealer.
Engine Fail To Start
ThisfaultisindicatedbyfaultcodeFC_4andfourblinkson
theLEDindicator.Thisfeaturepreventsthegeneratorfrom
damagingitselfifitcontinuallyattemptstostartinspite
ofanotherproblem,suchasnofuelsupply.Eachtimethe
systemisdirectedtostart,theunitwillcrankfor10seconds,
pausefor10seconds,andrepeat.Ifthesystemdoesnot
beginproducingelectricityafterapproximatelyminutes,
theunitwillstopcrankingandtheLEDwillblink.
Checktomakesurethegenerator’smaincircuitbreakerisin
theONpositioninorderforthesensingleadstoverifythat
theunitisrunning.
Themostlikelycauseofthisproblemisnofuelsupply.
Checktheinsideandoutsidefuelshutoffvalvestoensure
theyarefullyopen.Othercausescouldbefailedspark
plug(s),failedengineignition,ortheengineairfilter
isclogged.Youmayneedtocontactyourinstallerfor
assistanceifyoucan’tremedytheseproblems.
Low Frequency
ThisfaultisindicatedbyfaultcodeFC_5andfiveblinkson
theLEDindicator.Thisfeatureprotectsdevicesconnected
tothetransferswitchbyshuttingthegeneratordown
iftheenginerunsslowerthan55Hzforthreeseconds.
Thisconditioniscausedbyafailedenginegovernororby
excessiveloadsonthegenerator.Toremedytheproblem,
contactyourinstalleroraBriggs&StrattonAuthorized
Dealer.
Engine Overspeed
ThisfaultisindicatedbyfaultcodeFC_6andsixblinkson
theLEDindicator.Thisfeatureprotectsdevicesconnected
tothetransferswitchbyshuttingthegeneratordownif
theenginehappenstorunfasterthanthepresetlimit.The
overspeedfaultisdetectedasfollows:
• Ifthegeneratoroutputfrequencyis65-70Hz,after
threeseconds,thegeneratorwillshutdown.
• Ifthegeneratoroutputfrequencyisgreaterthan70Hz,
thegeneratorwillshutdownimmediately.
Thisconditioniscausedbyafailedenginegovernor.
Toremedytheproblem,contactyourinstallerora
Briggs&StrattonAuthorizedDealer.
High Temperature
ThisfaultisindicatedbyfaultcodeFC_7andsevenblinks
ontheLEDindicator.Thecontactsofthetemperatureswitch
(A)arenormallyopen.Iftheengineoiltemperatureexceeds
approximately148.9°C(300°F),thefaultisdetectedandthe
engineshutsdown.
Commoncausesforthisconditionincluderunningthe
unitwithallaccesscoversremoved,obstructedairinletor
exhaustport,lowoillevel,ordebrisintheenginecylinder
coolingfins.
Toresolvetheproblem,lettheenginecooldownandremove
anyaccumulateddebrisandobstructions.Ensurethatthe
accesscoversareinstalledwhenevertheunitisrunning.
Transfer Switch Fault
ThisfaultisindicatedbyfaultcodeFC_8andeightblinkson
theLEDindicator(iftransferswitchisequippedwithfault
detection).Themostlikelycauseofthisfaultisablownfuse
inthetransferswitch.
