Servicing the System
Toservicesystem:
1. SetthesystemswitchtoOFF.
. Setthegenerator’smaincircuitbreakertoitsOFFposition.
3. Utilityvoltageispresent.Disconnectpowerbefore
servicingbyremovingthetwoAmpfusesfromthe
transferswitch.
Fault Detection System
Thegeneratormayhavetorunforlongperiodsoftimewith
nooperatorpresent.Forthatreason,thesystemisequipped
withsensorsthatautomaticallyshutdownthegenerator
intheeventofpotentiallydamagingconditions,suchas
lowoilpressure,hightemperature,overspeed,andother
conditions.
Thegenerator’scontrolpanelhasadigitaldisplaythatshows
faultcodes,like“FC_1”.Thetablebelowliststhedetected
fault,thefaultcodeasdisplayedonthecontrolpanel,and
thenumberofblinksseenontheremoteLEDindicator.

location.TheLEDwillremainlitwhenthegeneratorisin
AUTO.TheLEDwillturnonandoffinaseriesofblinksthat
correspondtothefaultdetectedinyourhomegenerator.The
blinkpatternisrepeatedwithabriefpausebetweeneach
seriesofblinks.
Reset Fault Detection System
Theoperatormustresetthefaultdetectionsystemeachtime
itactivates.Todoso,placethesystemswitchintheOFF
positionfor5secondsormore.Remedythefaultcondition,
thenreturnthehomegeneratortoservicebyplacingthe
systemswitchintheAUTOposition.
Adescriptionofeachfaultandsuggestedremediesareas
follows:
No LED - Discharged Battery
IfthereisadetectedfaultconditionbuttheLEDis
notblinking,thisisbecausethebatteryiscompletely
discharged.Toremedytheproblem,removethe15Amp
fuseanddisconnectthebatteryfromthegenerator.Take
thebatterytoalocalbatterystoreforanalysis.Replacethe
batteryafterithasbeenfullyrecharged,connectingthe
NEGATIVEcablelast.Theninstallthe15Ampfuseinthe
controlpanel.
NOTE:Withthebatteryinstalled,allwiringtotransferswitch
andhomegeneratorcompleted,utilitypowersuppliedto
theAutomaticTransferSwitch,andthesystemswitchin
AUTOposition,thebatteryreceivesatricklechargewhile
theengineisnotrunning.Thetricklechargeisnotableto
rechargeabatterythatiscompletelydischarged.SeeBattery
inMaintenance.
Low Battery Voltage
ThisfaultisindicatedbyfaultcodeFC_1andoneblinkon
theLEDindicator.Thisconditionoccursifthegenerator
cannotstartbecausethestartingbatteryoutputpoweris
belowthatneededtocranktheengine.Causesforthis
problemmaybeafaultybatteryorbatterychargecircuit.
Toremedytheproblem,contactyourlocalservicecenterto
checkthebatterychargeoutput.Removethe15Ampfuse
anddisconnectthebatteryfromthegenerator.Takethe
batterytoalocalbatterystoreforanalysis.ReplaceONLY
withsametypebatteryasdescribedinBatteryinInstallation.
Replacethebatteryafterithasbeenfullyrecharged,connecting
theNEGATIVEcablelast.Theninstallthe15Ampfuse.
Low Oil Pressure
ThisfaultisindicatedbyfaultcodeFC_andtwoblinkson
theremoteLEDindicator.Theunitisequippedwithanoil
pressureswitch(A).
Theoilpressureswitchusesnormallyclosedcontactsthat
areheldopenbyengineoilpressureduringoperation.
Shouldoilpressuredropbelowthe8psirange,switch
contactscloseandtheengineisshutdown.
Toremedythelowoilpressurecondition,addthe
recommendedoiltotheFULLmarkonthedipstick.
Ifthelowoilpressureconditionstillexists,theenginewill
start,thenshutdownafterabout0seconds.Thefaultcode
willappearandtheLEDwillflash.Inthiscase,contacta
Briggs&StrattonAuthorizedDealer.
