Unloading a Tape Cartridge
Unloading a Tape Cartridge
1. Ensure the tape drive is not selected from the host.
2. Use Mediacom to issue an Info Tape Label command.
3. If the tape fails to eject, use the procedure
, Recovering From a Stuck Tape
on page 5-3 to release the tape cartridge.
If the Unload switch is pressed during a write operation, the tape drive attempts
to write the remaining data before it unloads. A message of “UnWr XXXX”
(Unwritten Data) means that the attempt failed and some data remains unwritten
to tape.
Pressing the Unload switch again causes loss of this data. If you want the host
to save the unwritten data, issue the following SCSI command before pressing
Unload again:
Recover Buffer Data
Reclaiming (Reformatting) a Tape Cartridge
When a cartridge is corrupted or formatted for special uses such as dump, it can
be reformatted as a data tape and returned to normal usage. This process is
referred to as reclaiming a tape.
1. Take the tape drive offline.
2. Press Menu until you reach the Drive Mode Main menu. “Drv Menu?”
appears.
3. Press Select to enter the Drive menu.
4. Press Menu until “MakeDataTp” appears.
5. Press Select to initiate the process. Any cartridge present in the tape drive is
ejected.
6. When “Ld Data Tp” appears, place a write-enabled tape in the tape drive.
The operation starts automatically and erases and reformats any tape.
If “DatCrFailx” appears (where x = 1), see
on page A-3 for instructions on how to handle this error condition.
7. When finished, exit Drive Mode and remove the tape from the tape drive.
8. Put the tape drive online.
Formatting a Diagnostic Dump Tape
To collect a diagnostic dump, prepare a tape with a special format so that it will
accept diagnostic dump data. Use this procedure to format the tape. This
procedure does not perform a diagnostic dump.
1. Take the tape drive offline.
