Preparing Storage System and Remote Web Console Computers
Before launching Cache Residency, you must take several preliminary steps. These include the
following:
•
Install the storage system.
•
Install the computers that you intend to use as Remote Web Consoles, and connect them to
the storage system internal LAN.
•
Enable Cache Residency on each subsystem where you intend to use the option.
For detailed instructions, see the HP StorageWorks XP24000 Disk Array Owner Guide or the HP
StorageWorks XP20000 Disk Array Owner Guide and HP StorageWorks XP24000/XP20000
Remote Web Console User Guide.
System Requirements
Cache Residency operations involve the storage systems, the host servers which access the data
stored in the storage system, the Fibre Channel connections between the storage system and the
host servers, and the licensed Cache Residency software.
The Cache Residency system requirements are:
•
HP Storage System: Cache Residency supports all physical disk drive options and RAID-level
configurations for the storage system. The storage system operates with the OPEN-V device
type. For device types other than OPEN-V, see Appendix A.
•
Remote Web Console: The Remote Web Console remote console software is required for
storage system Cache Residency operations. The Cache Residency remote console software
is a component of the storage system Remote Web Console product. For instructions on
installing the Remote Web Console computers and software, see the HP StorageWorks
XP24000/XP20000 Remote Web Console User Guide.
Notes: Administrator or Cache Residency write access to the Remote Web Console software is
required to perform Cache Residency operations. Users without Administrator or Cache Residency
write access can only view Cache Residency information.
Enabling the Cache Residency Option
You must enable the Cache Residency option on the storage system using the storage system Remote
Web Console remote console software. Each storage system requires its own separate set of license
key codes.
