Chapter 4 Creating a Wireless Network

SSID Broadcast
Select this check box to enable

SSID

broadcast. If activated, the

SSID

of the

Router’s wireless network is broadcast wirelessly. To deactivate, click in the check
box to make the check mark disappear.

802.11 Mode
Select the wireless communication standard compatible with the devices to be
connected on the wireless network from the drop-down list. Options include
802.11b, 802.11g, or Mixed (allows both 802.11b- and 802.11g-equipped wire-
less devices to join the network).

Channel
Select the appropriate channel from the drop-down list. All devices on the wire-
less network must be on the same channel in order to function correctly.

Encryption
This text box displays the current encryption key for the Router’s wireless net-
work security configuration. The default setting is 64/40-bit encryption with
a 10 character hexadecimal key, and is also shown on a sticker on the bottom
of the Router. For more information about wireless network security, see the
“Wireless Security” section in this chapter.
