For Oil and Oil-Based Fluids

• Dye-Lite ® All-In-One™ multipurpose fluorescent leak detection dye is
used in conjunction with Tracerline ® ultraviolet or UV/blue light lamps
to pinpoint leaks in oil and oil-based fluid systems.
• Do Not Add to Brake Systems.
• You must wear fluorescence-enhancing glasses to protect your eyes
and to make leaks clearly visible. The glow will show best under low
light conditions.
• PLEASE NOTE: Wipe all dye spills immediately to prevent damage to
paints, finishes and bumpers. Dye may stain hands and clothing.
ADDING DYE AND INSPECTING FOR LEAKS
• Turn OFF the engine. Add TP-3400 through the appropriate fill port.
The recommended dilution ratios of dye to host fluid are:
Automotive applications Suggested dilution ratio
Engine oil
(includes synthetics)
Gasoline 0.5 oz per 4-6 qt
Diesel 0.5 oz per 4 qt
Power steering fluid 0.5 oz per 4 qt
Automatic transmission fluid 1 oz per 12 qt
Gasoline and diesel fuels 1 oz per 12-18 gal
Mobile hydraulic applications Suggested dilution ratio
Light-colored petroleum-based fluids 1 oz per 4-6 gal
Very dark or intensely blue
petroleum-based fluids 1 oz per 4-6 qt
NOTE: If the oil is very dirty, you may need to add more dye to obtain a good
fluorescent response (additional dye will not harm the engine) or change the
oil or fluid before adding the dye.
• Run the engine for 5 to 10 minutes so the oil or fluid and dye will mix well.
Use a Tracerline ® ultraviolet or UV/blue light lamp to inspect the dipstick or
fill port and check for a bright fluorescent response. Add more dye if needed.
A short road test is recommended to allow the dye to penetrate all leaks prior
to inspection.
• Turn OFF the engine. Inspect possible leak areas with the Tracerline ®
lamp. In hard to reach areas, use a mirror to reflect the light, or wipe
suspected areas with a clean, white cloth. Check the cloth with the lamp for
fluorescence. All leaks will show with a bright yellow-green glow.
• After the leaks are repaired, clean the remaining dye from the leak sites with
Tracer Products’ GLO-AWAY™ dye cleaner/remover or a shop cleaner.
Remaining dye could be mistaken for a leak. Check all areas again with the
lamp to make sure that no dye remains. Run the engine for another 5 to 10
minutes and reinspect with the lamp to be sure that all leaks have been
repaired and no new leaks appear.
• It is not necessary to change the oil or fluid after adding the tracer dye.
When used properly, Dye-Lite ® can safely remain in the system until the host
fluid is changed.
CAUTION
Keep out of reach of children. Store in a cool place away from direct
sunlight, heat sources and open flame. May be harmful or fatal if
swallowed. Avoid contact with eyes or skin. Wash thoroughly after
handling. Wipe all spills to avoid stains.
