center hole in the split clamp-on mass. Tighten the thumbscrews to
secure the mass to the end of the rod.
7. Use a table clamp
and rod to mount the
Rotary Motion
Sensor securely to
the edge of the table
(See Figure 3).

EXPERIMENT SETUP
Follow the instructions on the following pages for the type of sensors
you are using (either PASPORT or ScienceWorkshop sensors)
Setup Instructions for PASPORT USB sensors and/or Xplorers:
1. Connect the Force and Rotary Motion Sensors each to a USB link
(with/without a USB hub) or Xplorer.
2. Connect the USB link or Xplorer cable to a USB hub or USB port
connected to your computer. (Note: If using a hub, the power
supply to the USB hub must be plugged into a power outlet.)
3. When the PASPORTAL window opens, select “Launch
DataStudio.”
4. In the PASPORT Setup window, set the following:
Force Sensor - Select “Force, pull positive” and deselect the check
next to “Force, push positive.”
Rotary Motion Sensor - Select Angular Velocity with the rad/s
units option.

Note: Calibration of

Motion Sensors is typi-
cally not required for
classroom use. How-
ever, if you wish to cali-
brate either sensor,
following the general
calibration procedure
suggested in the data
collection software.
