multi-analyte microspheres.
laser
Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. This highly
purified source of light is an efficient way to excite fluorochrome
electrons.
LIS
Laboratory Information System; A system for storing sample records
and test requests.
lot
A reagent with specific target values used for analysis or calibration.
median fluorescence intensity
(MFI)
Used to denote how much fluorescence a given particle population
carries; expressed and compared in linear numbers.
microparticle
A solid substance with a diameter in the micrometer range. Often used
as a synonym for a microsphere.
microspheres
Polystyrene spheres with a diameter in the micrometer range. Also
called beads.
multi-analyte
Several assays or tests performed simultaneously in the same
reaction container.
multi-batch
A set of batches to be processed consecutively.
panel
A panel is a grouping of related functions and text fields on the
xPONENT user interface.
pending batch
A batch that has been set up, but not yet run.
photobleaching
The process in which light absorption converts the fluorochromes on
the beads into different fluorescent or nonfluorescent compounds.
Photobleaching prevents beads from being properly classified.
plate
A 96-well tray in which analytes and samples are placed for organized
acquisition.
plate heater
An aluminum block used in the Luminex analyzer to maintain sample
temperature.
PMT
Photomultiplier tube, measures the excitation emission intensity of the
reporter dye bound to the surface of the xMAP microspheres.
probe
See Sample Probe.
protocol
A sequence of commands and predetermined settings defined by the
kit manufacturer.
