Fact Sheet

DusTreat* DC Series

Products to Control Fugitive Dust

The series of DusTreat* DC dust management
products are designed to:

Provide short or long term control of fugitive
dust emissions (> 90 % dust reduction for many
materials)

Reduce explosion hazards

Reduce inventory losses and pile run off

Improve working conditions, community rela-
tions and protect the environment

Description and Use

DusTreat DC products include:

Wet Suppression aids - surfactant formulations
designed to enhance the ability of normal water
sprays to contact, wet and agglomerate fine
respirable dust particles.

Foaming agents - to improve water distribution
and/or reduce moisture addition. Also negligible
impact on calorific value of fuel substrates com-
pared to normal water spray control.

Liquid Binding agents - to effect long term dust
control by bulk agglomeration & adhesion after
dry-out. Also effective at controlling emission
through multiple transfer points.

Foam Binding agents - binders developed es-
pecially for moisture sensitive substrates such
as clinker.

Crusting agents - specially formulated to con-
trol dust from long term storage piles by provid-
ing a durable, semi permanent waterproof
surface seal which reduces wind erosion and
also helps to protect against atmospheric oxi-
dation. The rain resistance also reduces the
chance of bulk freezing.

Typical Applications

The DusTreat DC series provides a complete line of
products for control of fugitive dust emissions from
a wide variety of solid materials including coal,
limestone, calcined coke, taconite, clinker, ores,
flyash, mine tailings and waste materials.

Treatment and Feeding Requirements

Wet suppression aids - normally diluted with water
(0.01 – 0.1 %) and fed into a simple spray system
using a standard diaphragm pump.
Foaming agents - solution concentrations range
from 0.2 – 2.0 % but dose requirements are a func-
tion of many factors.
Typical application doses are:

Coal: 1 - 2 L/ton

Limestone: 1 - 3 L/ton

Calcined coke: 1 - 10 L/ton

Product solutions are mixed with air to generate
foam using a GE Feed Proportioning Assembly and
a Remote Metering Module both available through
your local GE representative.
Liquid Binders - solution concentrations (up to
10 %) and dosage levels depend upon the product,
material and the required level of dust suppression.
All binders can be applied using simple wet spray
systems and some can be applied with foamers.
Dosage and feeding guidelines are available from
your local GE representative.
Foam binders - solution concentrations range be-
tween 0.5 – 2.0% depending on several factors and
typical dosage is 1 - 2 L/ton. Feeding requirements
are similar to those for foaming agents.
