IPDS
Intelligent Printer Data Stream (IPDS) is IBM’s Systems Application Architecture host-to-printer
data stream for Advanced Function Presentation subsystems. It provides an attachment-
independent interface for controlling and managing all-points-addressable (APA) printers that
allow the presentation of pages containing an unlimited mixture of different data types, including
text, image, graphics, bar code, and object container. It is used by a variety of print servers that
drive all-points-addressable (APA) page printers. Generally these printers are at the medium to
high end of the print speed and volume spectrum.

The Xerox FreeFlow

Print Server version 6.0 uses the following protocols and frame types:
• Microsoft® Windows® WHQL (Windows Hardware Quality Labs) printer drivers with Dynamic
tray and Status reporting
• Macintosh® OS 10 full feature drivers
• Adobe® PostScript® Printers Descriptions (PPD)
• HTTP and HTTPS browser submission support
• FreeFlow
®
Print Manager (FFPM optional) support
• Windows® 2000/XP full-featured drivers
• IPP for job submission and system status
This FreeFlow PrintServer for this Copier/Printer will be IPv6 compatible in 2008 as a software
upgrade.
Printing Services
• The Xerox FreeFlow
®
Print Server supports the following printing services:
• LPD (Line Printer Daemon)—Allows printing in TCP/IP networks using an LPR client and
supporting RFC 1179, the Berkeley LPR protocol. Supports direct socket interface via port
9100.
• PAP (Printer Access Protocol)—Allows printing in AppleTalk networks.
• NetBIOS printing and file sharing over TCP/IP and IPX.
• NFS file sharing
• Novell IPX/SPX NDS
Client Specifications
Macintosh
• G4 Power Macintosh or better is strongly recommended.
• Operating system: OSX or higher.
• Protocols: AppleTalk, TCP/IP
• Recommended memory: A minimum of 512 MB is recommended.
PC
• Required platform: PC platform capable of running supported operating system.
• Operating system: Windows Vista, Vista 64-bit, XP, 2000
• Protocols: TCP/IP, NetBEUI.
• Recommended memory: Operating system dependent, e.g., Windows XP, 256 MB minimum
to print.
UNIX
• A workstation with standard TCP/IP connectivity.
• TCP/IP printing software that conforms to RFC1179 (Berkeley lpd protocol).
