Flash Control at

1/320 s (Auto FP)

When

1/320 s (Auto FP) is selected for Custom Setting e1 (Flash

sync speed, 0 281), the built-in flash can be used at shutter
speeds as fast as

1

/

320

s, while optional SB-900, SB-800, SB-600, and

SB-R200 flash units can be used at any shutter speed (Auto FP High-
Speed Sync).

This option determines the slowest shutter
speed available when using front- or rear-
curtain sync or red-eye reduction in
programmed auto or aperture-priority auto
exposure modes (regardless of the setting
chosen, shutter speeds can be as slow as 30 s
in shutter-priority auto and manual exposure modes or at flash
settings of slow sync, slow rear-curtain sync, or red-eye reduction
with slow sync). Options range from

1

/

60

s (

1/60 s) to 30 s (30 s).

The Flash-Ready Indicator

When the flash fires at full power, the flash-indicator in the camera
viewfinder will blink to warn that the resulting photograph may be
underexposed. Note that the flash-ready indicators on optional flash
units will not display this warning when

1/320 s (Auto FP) is selected.
