1. Power down the server ("Powering down the server" on page
2. Remove the access panel.
3. Set positions 1, 5, and 6 of the system maintenance switch to On.
4. Install the access panel ("Installing the access panel" on page
5. Power up the server ("Powering up the server" on page
6. Wait for the server to emit two beeps.
7. Repeat steps 1 and 2.
8. Set positions 1, 5, and 6 of the system maintenance switch to Off.
9. Repeat steps 4 and 5.
When the server boots, the system identifies whether the current ROM bank is
corrupt. If a corrupt ROM is detected, the system boots from the backup ROM
and alerts you through POST or IML that the ROM bank is corrupt.
If both the current and backup versions of the ROM are corrupt, the server
automatically enters ROMPaq disaster recovery mode.
System maintenance menu
The System Maintenance Menu is a new utility that replaces the legacy system-
partition functionality supported on some ProLiant servers. This utility is
embedded in the system ROM and provides access to server diagnostics, RBSU,
and the Inspect Utility.
To access the System Maintenance Menu, press the F10 key when prompted
from the boot option screen ("Boot options" on page
From the menu, you can select from the following utilities that are embedded in
the system ROM:
• The ROM-Based Setup Utility ("HP ROM-Based Setup Utility" on page
) performs a wide range of configuration activities, including configuring
system devices and selecting operating systems and boot controllers.
• The ROM-Based Inspect Utility enables you to view system configuration
information and save the information to a file on a diskette.
