3. OperatiOn

Ensure that you read, understand and apply the safety and operational instructions before proceeding and take care to not touch the clamps together

when the unit is plugged into the vehicle's EOBD socket.

3.1.

Before commencing, if there is any doubt about the charge of the back-up battery to be used, it can be checked by simply connecting VS2072's red

clamp to the positive (+) battery terminal and the black clamp to the negative (-) terminal. All three LEDs should now illuminate green to indicate that the

battery has over 10V. If the voltage of the back-up battery is below 10V, the centre LED only, will illuminate red. Source another, fully charged battery to

use. Disconnect the clamps from the back-up battery before proceeding.

3.2.

Ensure that the vehicle's ignition is switched off. Locate the vehicle's EOBD socket and plug the VS2072's plug into it. The 2 green LEDs nearest the plug

should illuminate.

nOte: If the voltage of the vehicle's battery is below 9.4V, the centre LED only will illuminate red. The vehicle's battery may need attention and further

checks will need to be carried out on it. If the vehicle's battery is completely flat, it is probable that codes will already have been lost, however if there is

some power then the following procedure can still be carried out.

3.3.

Using a back-up 12Volt battery, connect the red clamp to the positive (+) battery

terminal and the black clamp to the negative (-) terminal. All three LEDs should

now illuminate green. The vehicle's on-board electronics are now powered by the

back-up batttery and the vehicle's battery can now be disconnected.

nOte: If the voltage of the back-up battery is below 10V, the centre LED only, will

illuminate red. The back-up battery does not have enough voltage to power the

vehicle's on-board electronics.

DO nOt remove the vehicle's battery and source

a fully charged battery to use.

3.4.

Disconnect the vehicle's battery by firstly disconnecting from the negative (-) terminal

and then from the positive (+) terminal. Carry out any work on the vehicle required.

Reconnect the vehicle's battery by connecting to the positive (+) terminal first and

then to the negative (-) terminal. Disconnect the back-up battery by unclamping from

the negative (-) terminal and then from the positive (+) terminal. Disconnect the

VS2072 unit by unplugging it from the vehicle's EOBD socket.

Store the unit carefully in a safe, dry, childproof location.

1.1.

perSOnaL preCaUtiOnS

Ensure that there is another person within hearing range and close enough to come to your aid, should a problem

arise when working near a lead-acid battery.

Wear safety eye protection and protective clothing. Avoid touching eyes while working near battery.

Have fresh water and soap nearby in case battery acid contacts skin, clothing, or eyes.

Wash immediately with soap and water if battery acid contacts skin or clothing. If acid enters eye, flush eye immediately with cool, clean running water for at

least 15 minutes and seek immediate medical attention.

Remove personal metallic items such as rings, bracelets, necklaces and watches. A lead-acid battery can produce a short-circuit current which is high enough

to weld such items to the vehicle and cause severe burns.

Ensure that hands, clothing (especially belts) are clear of fan blades and other moving or hot parts of engine. Remove ties and contain long hair.

DO nOt smoke or allow a spark or flame in the vicinity of the battery or engine.

1.2.

GeneraL SaFetY inStrUCtiOnS

Familiarise yourself with the application, limitations and potential hazards of the unit.

Also refer to the vehicle manufacturer’s hand book. IF IN ANY DOUBT

CONSULT A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN.

Ensure that the unit is in good condition before use. If in any doubt do not use the unit and contact a qualified electrician.

Only use recommended attachments and parts. To use unapproved items may be dangerous and will invalidate your warranty.

Keep tools and other items away from the engine and ensure that you can see the battery and working parts of engine clearly.

Keep children and unauthorised persons away from the work area.

DO nOt disassemble the unit for any reason.

WarninG! To prevent the risk of sparking, short circuit and possible explosion DO NOT drop metal tools in the battery area, or allow them to touch the battery

terminals.

DO nOt cross-connect unit to battery. Ensure positive (RED) clamp is to positive terminal and negative (BLACK) clamp is to negative terminal.

DO nOt use the unit outdoors, or in damp, or wet locations and DO nOt use in the vicinity of flammable liquids or gases.

Ensure there is effective ventilation to prevent a build-up of explosive gases.

DO nOt use the unit for a task for which it is not designed.

When not in use, store the unit carefully in a safe, dry, childproof location.
