Calibration
Your centrifuge comes factory-calibrated for accurate speeds with the 8-place
tube rotor. This is the default setting. When installing the lighter PCR rotor, you
may need to follow these instructions for more accurate speeds.
Switch `On’ the centrifuge from rear side. Press and hold the speed knob to
allow the centrifuge to go into calibration mode. CL will be indicated on
display. Run the centrifuge at the preset speed and check the rpm of rotor with
an external tachometer. If there is any difference in the set speed and
tachometer reading, adjust the speed by rotating the speed knob to match the
set speed with tachometer reading. Once the rpm is set, gently press and hold
the speed knob again to save the settings. Calibration will be valid for the
current cycle only.
Care and Maintenance
Your centrifuge and its rotor should be cleaned periodically. Ensure that while cleaning the unit is not plugged in. To clean
the centrifuge, use a damp cloth and a mild, noncorrosive detergent (ph < 8). Do not immerse the centrifuge in liquid or
pour liquids over it. Excessive amounts of liquid should be avoided, Liquid should not come into contact with the motor.
After cleaning, ensure all parts are dried thoroughly before attempting to operate the unit.
Should a spill of infectious materials occur within the rotor or rotor chamber, the unit should be disinfected. This should be
performed by qualified personnel with proper protective equipment.
Because of the safety issues with high g-forces in a centrifuge, it is recommended that rotors, buckets, and tube sleeves be
inspected every 6 months for corrosion and fatigue. If there is any indication of wear, the rotor, buckets, and sleeves should
be removed from service. Contact LW Scientific for return instructions, so the rotor can be evaluated by an LW Scientific
technician for repair or replacement. It is also recommended that after 2 years of service rotors, buckets, and sleeves be
returned to LW Scientific for inspection. Following these procedures will ensure safety of lab personnel as well as extend the
life of the centrifuge.
