COMMUNICATION SWITCH CARD INTERCONNECTIONS

Each Communication Switch Card can switch 2 communication channels. Each channel "output" can be
switched between two "inputs.” In a typical application, one communication port from PVTV STUDIO "A"
would connect to the first input of the first switching channel. One communication port from PVTV STUDIO
"B" would connect to the second input of the first switching channel. The output of the first switching chan-
nel connects to the communication port of any serial-controllable device, such as a VTR or character gen-
erator. The second switching channel would connect in the same manor, to a second communication port
from each of the two PVTV NEWS systems and to the communication port of a second peripheral device.
These connections are all made using standard digital communication cables terminated with 9 pin sub D
connectors. Inputs to the Communication Switch Card are female, outputs are male. These same direc-
tions should be followed for utilizing each of the six Communication Switch Cards in the Master Mod-
ule.Refer to Table 1 and Figure 1 for more infomration.

The actual signal switching mechanism employed is passive and can therefore accommodate all typical
communication signaling methods, including RS232, RS485, RS422.

Verify that the communication switch card inputs are connected to the same control ports of each PVTV
NEWS control module. For example, if the VTR is connected to control port 1 on STUDIO A, the same
VTR should be connected to control port 1 on STUDIO B.
