5.4.4 Replacing Triacs
If service personnel are skilled in soldering and desoldering techniques, it will be more
efficient to replace failed (shorted) triacs on site rather than exchanging the whole
lamp driver. The key to this is locating the failed triac. Figure 5 (located in
Appendix A) shows the triac assignments for the lamps in the digit. Figure 4 shows
the location and numbering of the triacs on the lamp driver. Identify the failed point on
the display using the lamp test. Locate the corresponding triac and replace it. The
cover and the tray on the lamp driver will need to be removed.
5.5
Structural Inspection
Visual inspection should be done periodically to check the paint appearance and to check for
corrosion, especially at footing bolts and support or guy cables. Fasteners should be checked
and tightened or replaced as required.

Unit Exchange/Replacement Procedure
Daktronics unique exchange program offers our clients the quickest, most economical way of
receiving product repairs. If a component fails, Daktronics will send the customer a
replacement. The customer, in turn, sends the failed component to Daktronics. This not only
saves money but decreases the time that the display is inoperable. Daktronics offers repair
and return on a timely basis; in urgent situations, every attempt is made to ship by the fastest
transit method available.
