Testing and Maintenance

Pressing the Test Button turns off the AC Indicator light and forces the unit into emergency mode and activates the
lamps. After releasing the Test Button, the fixture returns to normal operation.
Initial Testing – Allow the unit to charge approximately 1 hour, then press the test switch to conduct a short dis-
charge test. Allow a 24 hour charge before conducting a one hour test.
This is a maintenance free unit, however, periodic inspection and testing is required. NFPA 101, Life Safety Code,
outlines the following schedule:
Monthly – Insure that the AC indicator is illuminated. Conduct a 30 second discharge test by depressing the Test
Button. The lamps on the unit should be lit.
Annually – Insure that the AC indicator is illuminated. Conduct a full 1

as intended for the duration of the test.

“Written records of testing shall be kept by the owner for inspection by the authority having jurisdiction.”

SERVICING SHOULD BE PERFORMED BY QUALIFIED PERSONNEL.

1. Opening the Unit

The interior of the unit contains primary components and hardware for completing installation. Carefully pry off the

front panel of the unit by pulling at the slots located on the top of the unit. See Diagram 1.

2. Installation

ATTENTION: Turn off the AC power at the circuit breaker before making electrical connections.

Side and Ceiling Mounting (Diagrams 4 and 5)

1) Open EXIT panel from the housing (See Diagram 1) and remove the hole plugs from the top or side of the hous-

ing as necessary.

2) Remove the proper directional chevron(s) from the EXIT panel. Chevron removal from the panel(s) should be

done before installation and carefully to avoid damage to the front surfaces. For DOUBLE FACE installation, remove
the back plate by removing the housing screws (4 pcs) inside the unit. NOTE: there are no mounting clips present
on the back plate, therefore use caution to prevent dropping or falling of the plate. Re-assemble using the original
hardware after desired chevron removal.

3) Secure canopy to the housing using holes #2 and #3 on the canopy with provided canopy screws.
4) Feed the AC supply leads through the top or side hole on the housing and the crossbar, then make the proper supply

lead connections (See Diagram 3). Cap off the unused supply lead. If the unit contains a battery, snap the battery con-
nectors together. NOTE: use the enclosed “holding wire” for assistance during installation. (See Diagram 3).

5) Push excess wire into the junction box and align holes in canopy with those in the crossbar. Using the provided

screws, tighten canopy to crossbar so that the canopy is securely fastened and tight against the ceiling or wall.

6) Snap EXIT panel into the housing, bottom first and then top (See Diagram 2).
Back Mounting (Diagram 6)

1) Open EXIT panel from the housing (See Diagram 1).

2) Remove the proper directional chevron(s) from the EXIT panel. Chevron removal from the panel(s) should be

done before installation and carefully to avoid damage to the front surfaces.

3) Remove the knockout hole on the center of the back plate. Then remove the oblong knockouts on the back plate

that correspond to the junction box holes to be used. For easier removal, it is recommended that the knockouts be
removed from the outside of the backplate (See Diagram 7).

4) Feed the AC supply leads through the center hole on backplate, then make the proper supply lead connections (See

Diagram 3). Cap off the unused supply lead. If the unit contains a battery, snap the battery connectors together. NOTE:
use the enclosed “holding wire” for assistance during installation. (See Diagram 3).

5) Push excess wire into the junction box and secure back plate to junction box.
6) Snap EXIT panel into the housing, bottom first and then top (See Diagram 2).
