RAID Configuration

See the instructions on the following pages for an introduction to configuring your hard disks in

RAID (Redundant

Array of Independent Disks)

mode as per the following levels/modes.

RAID Level 0 (Striping) - Provides increased performance (for identical dives) by spreading the I/O load across the
channels and drives. A Striped Array is NOT fault-tolerant as the failure of one drive will result in the loss of all data
in the array.

RAID Level 1 (Mirroring) - Provides data protection (for identical dives), as should a drive that is part of a mir-
rored array fail, the mirrored drive (which contains identical data) will handle all the data.

RAID JBOD (Spanning) - JBOD (“Just a Bunch of Disks”) is useful if you want to combine odd size drives into
one large drive
. There is no increased performance or data protection associated with this configuration.

RAID Enable/Disable Warning

DO NOT Enable/Disable the NV RAID Configuration unless you intend to reinstall your operating system. Make sure you
have backed up all your data before doing so.

Note that if you do not wish to use the RAID configuration go to the Advanced > Advanced Chipset Control menu and set
the “NV RAID Configuration:" item to Disabled (see

Figure 14 on page 33

) before installing the operating system.

If the RAID configuration is Disabled, then you do not need to install a RAID driver for Windows.
