Troubleshooting
This section describes the problems that may occur during use of the scanner and how to solve them.
Trouble Categories
The following trouble categories are addressed:
• The Scanner Does Not Turn ON (See p. 49)
• The Scanner Is Not Recognized (Connecting via USB)
• The Scanner Is Not Recognized (Connecting via
• Scanning Is Not Performed (See p. 50)
• Slow Scanning Speed (See p. 50)
• Documents Do Not Feed Properly (See p. 51)
• Saved Image Files Do Not Open (See p. 51)
• Scanning Results Are Not as Expected (See p. 51)
It you cannot resolve a problem, contact your local authorized
Canon dealer or your service representative.
Problem and Solution
■ The Scanner Does Not Turn ON
If the scanner does not turn ON, first confirm the
following:
✔ Is the power cord connected correctly?
✔ Is the power cord inserted into the power outlet?
If this does not solve the problem, consider the following
possible problems and causes:
Problem
With Auto USB Power switching is
enabled, but the scanner does not turn ON
when the computer is turned ON.
Cause
The SCSI connection is also being used.
Solution
The SCSI connection does not support Auto
USB Power switching. Use only the USB
connection if you want to use Auto USB
Power switching.
Cause
Auto USB Power has been disabled
([OFF] is selected in the User Mode).
Solution
Enable Auto USB Power (select [ON] in the
User Mode).
■ The Scanner Is Not Recognized (Connecting
via USB)
If the scanner’s USB connection is not recognized, first
confirm the following:
✔ Are the scanner and PC connected correctly using the
proper cable?
✔ Is the scanner’s power switch turned ON?
If this does not solve the problem, consider the following
possible causes:
Cause
The scanner does not support your USB
interface.
Solution
This product is not guaranteed to operate with
all types of USB interfaces. Contact your local
authorized Canon dealer or service
representative for more information.
Cause
The scanner does not support the USB
cable.
Solution
Use the USB cable provided with the scanner.
Cause
The USB hub is not compatible with the
scanner.
Solution
Remove the USB hub.
