This is a CCD phenomenon known as “vertical
smear”, and does not indicate malfunction of the
camera. Note that vertical smear is not recorded
with the image in the case of a snapshot, but it is
recorded in the case of a movie.

Change the focus to Manual Focus or Pan Focus,
which will eliminate Auto Focus operation noise
(pages 85, 86).

1) Record within the allowable shooting range.

2) Try changing the focus mode to Manual Focus

(page 86) or Pan Focus (page 85).

3) Try pointing the camera at another subject

momentarily. This may correct the problem.

Use a light or some other means to illuminate the
subject.

Vertical lines on the
monitor screen.

Noise in audio.

Out of focus images.

Digital noise in images.

Recording a very brightly lit subject can cause a
vertical band to appear in the monitor screen
image.

Auto Focus, zoom, and aperture operation noise.

1) The subject is outside the shooting range of the

camera.

2) Subject type is difficult to focus.

3) Subject is not compatible with Auto Focus.
