6.6 Routing (Advanced Mode only)
Add a new static route to the IP routing table or
edit/remove an existing route.
Static routes are unnecessary for most users.
They are typically only used in networks with
more than one layer, such as when there is a
network within a network so that packet
destinations are hidden behind an additional
router. Adding a static route is a way of telling the router about an additional step that packets will need to take to reach
their destination.
Click
Add to create a new static route.
IP/Network Address: The IP address of the target
network or host.
Type: Select from a dropdown list to specify the type of the
target:
Network
Host
Netmask: Used to specify which portion of the IP/Network
Address
signifies the network trying to be accessed and
which part signifies the host that the packets will be routed
to.
NOTE: 255.255.255.255 is used to signify only the host that was entered in the IP/Network Address field.
Gateway: Specifies the next hop to be taken if this route is used. A gateway of 0.0.0.0 implies there is no next hop, and
the IP address matched is directly connected to the router on the interface specified:
LAN or WAN.
